Welcome to Logical Business Systems

Logical Business Systems, founded in 1974 as Logical Machine Corporation, received national media recognition as one of the first companies to introduce a microcomputer-based natural programming language for business applications.

This language was the revolutionary forerunner of Pragma and was the first computer language directed towards non-technical end users.

Easily learned, and easily translated into foreign languages, Pragma has truly international appeal and can be found operating in applications worldwide.

The Pragma Language

Pragma  was especially made to write large, powerful business applications. It is easy to learn because it is patterned after the parts of speech, using nouns and verbs like those of everyday language. And if English is not your language, you can translate Pragma into your language. Pragma relieves you of many of the common problems associated with programming, such as worrying about data types. You don't need to remember whether data is single precision, double precision, integer or character; it's done for you.

When programming, the interactive editor immediately checks your syntax and rejects anything the computer does not understand, thus avoiding errors later on. Also, since Pragma is interpreted, you can immediately run your program or portions of it to check your progress. The simple structure and the fact that all commands are common English words, makes program maintenance easy, even over a telephone line.

The user-friendliness of the language dramatically cuts your programming time and lets you concentrate on the application you are writing, instead of worrying about the computer or the language.

A powerful feature of Pragma  is its databases. You can choose from two different databases, Pragma's own file manager PFM or Btrieve (now called Pervasive). They are easy to use since Pragma  does all the housekeeping chores for you. In a record, the length of a field can be variable. Files are automatically opened and closed for you and records are automatically sorted alphanumerically.

Our latest version, Pragma 6 lets you use PostgreSQL as a file manager.

The data of a Pragma application is networkable. If you use Btrieve or PostgreSQL as one of your file managers, you will automatically have a client - server application..
