The current version of Pragma 4 for DOS is version 4.41.

All the changes are described in the update document.

Please note that to run Pragma 4 a security device (dongel) is required. Without dongel the program will operate only in a limited demo mode. To run Pragma 4 on a Windows NT machine you must follow the instructions of the technical bulletin Running Pragma 4 on Windows NT.

 

The DOS version consists of two diskettes with all the files of a Pragma 4 for DOS release.

P4_41_LOG.ZIP contains the zipped self extracting version of the DOS Pragma 4 logic.

P4_41_UT.ZIP contains the zipped self extracting version of the DOS Pragma 4 util.

P4_UPDAT.ZIP contains the Pragma 4 update and extender documentation.

P4_T_MAN.ZIP contains the Pragma 4 tutorial manual.  It is formatted for Microsoft Word for Windows.

P4_T_VOC.ZIP contains the Pragma 4 tutorial vocabulary and a PFM tutorial data file.

Version 4.30 is available. It contains the utility PRA2PFM to convert a Pragma 3 program to Pragma 4.

Pragma 4 for UNIX

All the tar files for Pragma 4.40 for UNIX are in one compressed file. To unzip it you need the unzip program for UNIX.

To install the unzip program:

  1. Download the file unizip.exe.
  2. Copy the download file onto a DOS diskette.
  3. Uncompress the file onto the floppy (run the executable)
  4. On UNIX system perform a doscp a:unzip /usr/bin
  5. On UNIX system perform a doscp a:zip /usr/bin
  6. On UNIX system perform a doscp a:addcr.zip /usr/bin
  7. On UNIX system perform a doscp a:readme /usr/bin/readme.zip
  8. chmod 777 unzip.zip
  9. unzip addcr

To install Pragma using UNIX ZIP:

  1. Download P4_UNIX onto a DOS disk (or UNIX). It will fit on one floppy. Rename it to be P4_UNIX.EXE
  2. Donwload UNZIP and rename it to be UNZIP.EXE
  3. If copied onto a DOS floppy disk as root copy the file to the UNIX root directory: doscp a:P4_unix.exe /
  4. Key P4 in the following command (after having installed unizip) unzip -d P4_unix.exe
  5. cd /tmp
  6. ./init.pragma
  7. Select appropriate operating system (U for UNIX)
  8. Kernel boot by default? answer yes
  9. Rebuild kernel environment = Y
  10. Reboot system

The following version of Pragma 4 for UNIX has been patched to make it year 2000 compliant for old versions of SCO UNIX that do not see the year 2000 as a leap year.  Please note that we have not tested this new version.

Pragma 4 and EDI

The zipped file P4_EDI.ZIP contains a vocab and PFM files that access a BBS to upload and download files. The file P4_EDI.TXT contains a short description and instructions for the program.
